Mumbai: Actor Arun Govil, remembered by generations of Indian viewers for his portrayal of Lord Ram in the iconic television series Ramayan, is set to return to the epic in a different role—as King Dashrath, the father of Lord Ram, in Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming film Ramayanam.
The filmmakers have unveiled a new poster featuring Govil in a regal avatar as the king of Ayodhya. Sharing the poster on social media, the makers recalled how the actor brought Lord Ram to life for an entire generation and announced his return to the world of the Ramayana as Dashrath.

The casting carries a special significance for Govil, whose portrayal of Lord Ram remains deeply associated with the epic in popular culture. His new role places him in the story as the father of the very character he famously portrayed decades ago.

The film features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman.
Planned as a two-part cinematic adaptation of the epic, Ramayanam is scheduled to release its first instalment on November 5, 2026. The film is among the highly anticipated projects bringing the Ramayana to the big screen for contemporary audiences.
