15–20 lakh devotees expected; electricity department directed to ensure round-the-clock supply across the festival area
Gonda: The Devipatan Mandal administration has directed the Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (MVVNL) to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply during the traditional Kajri Teej fair in Gonda district. The directive has been issued in view of the large number of devotees expected to attend the annual religious gathering.
In a letter dated September 11, 2026, Commissioner of Devipatan Mandal Durga Shakti Nagpal requested the Managing Director of MVVNL, Lucknow, to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the identified substations from 6 pm on September 11 to 6 am on September 15.
The letter referred to the arrangements for the traditional Kajri Teej fair, which is held annually in Gonda from Bhadau Amavasya to Ganesh Chaturthi. The festival attracts approximately 15–20 lakh devotees, who take a holy bath in the Sarayu River and visit the Dukhharan Nath Temple in Gonda city and the Prithvinath Temple in Khargupur to offer prayers to Lord Shiva.
The fair continues for three to four days and covers a large area. According to the letter, electricity supply to the festival zone is provided through nine 33/11 KV substations.
The Commissioner directed the concerned authorities to ensure that the substations mentioned in the attached communication remain free from scheduled power cuts during the specified period. The letter also called for night-time emergency rostering to ensure that electricity supply is maintained without interruption.
The directive was issued to facilitate safe and smooth arrangements for the annual religious event, which draws devotees from across the region.
Copies of the communication have been sent to the Director (Technical), MVVNL, Lucknow; Director (SLDC), Vibhuti Khand, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow; the District Magistrate, Gonda; and the Chief Engineer (Distribution), Devipatan Zone, Gonda, for information and necessary action.
