Gonda: Gonda District Magistrate Priyanka Niranjan has directed sugar mills in the district to ensure 100 per cent and timely payment to sugarcane farmers, warning that negligence or unnecessary delays in clearing dues would not be tolerated.
The directions were issued during a review meeting held at the Collectorate auditorium on Tuesday to assess sugarcane price payments and other issues concerning farmers. Unit heads of all sugar mills in the district and concerned departmental officials attended the meeting, where mill-wise payment status was reviewed.
Kundarkhi Sugar Mill Warned Over Delays
The District Magistrate issued specific instructions to officials of Kundarkhi Sugar Mill to ensure that all sugarcane farmers receive the full value of their produce within the stipulated timeframe.
Niranjan said farmers should not face any difficulties in receiving their payments. She directed officials to regularly monitor pending dues and ensure their disposal on a priority basis.
Time-Bound Resolution of Farmers’ Problems
The DM also directed the unit heads of all sugar mills to address farmers’ grievances effectively and within a fixed timeframe. She said sugarcane farmers are an important pillar of the agricultural economy and that serious efforts must be made to increase their income and provide them with better facilities.
Officials were also instructed to explore new and effective measures aimed at improving farmers’ incomes.
Trailers Banned for Sugarcane Transportation
Road safety during sugarcane transportation was another key issue discussed at the meeting. The District Magistrate directed that trailers should not be used for transporting sugarcane.
She also made it mandatory for all vehicles carrying sugarcane to have reflectors installed at the rear. She said reflectors would make vehicles more visible at night from a distance and help reduce the risk of road accidents.
Mill managements and concerned officials were instructed to strictly enforce the prescribed safety standards.
Timely Payments and Road Safety Top Priorities
The District Magistrate said timely payment of sugarcane dues, prompt resolution of farmers’ grievances and safety during transportation must remain the primary responsibilities of all concerned officials.
She directed departments and sugar mill managements to maintain continuous monitoring of these issues and take corrective action wherever necessary.
