Bareilly: The Centre for Animal Disease Research and Diagnosis (CADRAD) at the ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Bareilly, has achieved a major milestone by securing expanded accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) under the international standard ISO/IEC 17025:2017.
The laboratory had initially received NABL accreditation in July 2025 for diagnostic testing related to three diseases. The latest expansion significantly broadens its accredited testing scope, reflecting the centre’s continued commitment to quality assurance, technical excellence and internationally recognised veterinary diagnostic services.
Under the expanded accreditation, CADRAD is now authorised to conduct molecular diagnostic testing for a range of important animal diseases, including Bovine Herpesvirus-1 (BoHV-1), Brucella species, Tritrichomonas foetus, Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (Johne’s disease), Canine Parvovirus, Canine Adenovirus-1, Lumpy Skin Disease Virus (LSDV), African Swine Fever Virus (ASFV) and Rabies virus using both the Direct Fluorescent Antibody (DFA) and real-time RT-PCR methods.
The accredited tests are performed in accordance with protocols prescribed in the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) Terrestrial Manual and the laboratory’s standard operating procedures, ensuring high standards of accuracy, reliability and quality control. The expanded accreditation further strengthens CADRAD’s role as a national reference laboratory supporting disease surveillance, outbreak investigations and animal disease control programmes across the country.
Congratulating the CADRAD team, Dr. Raghavendra Bhatta, Deputy Director General of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Director of IVRI, commended the efforts of Joint Director Dr. Sohini along with the laboratory’s scientists, technical personnel and supporting staff for maintaining international standards of laboratory competence.
He said the enhanced accreditation would strengthen confidence among veterinarians, livestock owners, researchers and regulatory agencies by providing internationally accepted, quality-assured diagnostic services for livestock and companion animals. Dr. Bhatta noted that the achievement reinforces IVRI’s commitment to advancing animal health, improving disease surveillance and supporting India’s veterinary healthcare infrastructure through world-class diagnostic capabilities.
