Bareilly: District Magistrate and District Election Officer Avinash Singh chaired a meeting with representatives of recognised political parties to discuss proposals received for the rationalisation of polling stations ahead of the special summary revision of electoral rolls for the Assembly constituencies.
The meeting, held at the Collectorate auditorium, reviewed suggestions submitted by political parties in line with the directions of the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the Chief Electoral Officer, Uttar Pradesh regarding the reorganisation of polling stations to improve voter convenience.
During the meeting, Additional District Magistrate (Finance & Revenue) and Deputy District Election Officer Santosh Kumar Singh informed participants that all proposals had been examined by the respective Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), and the findings of their verification reports were shared with the representatives.
Officials explained that the Election Commission undertakes an annual review and rationalisation of polling stations to ensure that every voter has access to a polling booth located close to their residence, equipped with essential facilities and designed to provide a safe and accessible voting experience. Political parties were invited to submit any additional suggestions for consideration.
The Deputy District Election Officer said the District Election Officer would forward the complete proposal, along with all supporting documents, to the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Uttar Pradesh, between July 25 and July 28 for the Commission’s approval. The Chief Electoral Officer is scheduled to submit the final rationalisation proposals to the Election Commission on July 31, 2026.
The meeting was attended by Nawabganj MLA Dr. M.P. Arya, Additional District Magistrate and Deputy District Election Officer Santosh Kumar Singh, City Magistrate Rajesh Kumar Verma, Assistant Commissioners, Sub-Divisional Magistrates and representatives of recognised political parties.
