Three-Day CMRS Inspection Successfully Concludes; Report Expected Later This Week
Lucknow: The three-day statutory inspection of the newly constructed Balance Section (Kanpur Central–Naubasta) of Kanpur Metro’s Corridor-1 (IIT–Naubasta) concluded successfully today. Preparations for the commencement of passenger services on this section are now in their final stage. Security arrangements at all seven newly constructed stations have been strengthened on the lines of the operational IIT–Kanpur Central section, with the installation of state-of-the-art security equipment at every station.
CMRS Conducts Comprehensive Technical Inspection
The three-day inspection was carried out by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), Shri Nilabhra Sengupta, along with his five-member team. On the final day, the CMRS held a review meeting with senior officials of Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) to assess various technical aspects of the newly constructed section.
Earlier, on June 27 and 28, the CMRS conducted a detailed inspection of both the up-line and down-line tracks between Kanpur Central and Naubasta using a motor trolley. The inspection continued until nearly 11:00 PM. During the exercise, all passenger safety arrangements and operational provisions at each newly constructed station were thoroughly examined. The integrated testing of the entire Corridor-1 from IIT to Naubasta was also successfully completed. Critical parameters of the signalling system were evaluated through a series of rigorous tests, including collision avoidance tests, high-speed trials, speed and braking tests, along with several other technical assessments.
State-of-the-Art Security Infrastructure at All New Stations
Advanced security systems have been installed at all seven newly constructed stations, comprising two underground stations (Jhakarkati and Transport Nagar) and five elevated stations (Baradevi, Kidwai Nagar, Vasant Vihar, Bauddh Nagar and Naubasta).

The stations have been equipped with X-ray Baggage Inspection Systems (XBIS), Door Frame Metal Detectors (DFMDs), Hand-Held Metal Detectors, and other modern security equipment. Deployment of security personnel has also been completed. Security across the Kanpur Metro network is jointly managed by the Uttar Pradesh Special Security Force (UPSSF) and trained personnel from a private security agency. To further strengthen passenger safety, all metro stations have been equipped with CCTV cameras integrated with advanced video analytics technology. Live feeds from these cameras are continuously monitored at the respective Station Control Rooms, the Operation Control Centre (OCC) and the Security Control Room located at the Metro Depot. Each underground station is equipped with approximately 40–45 CCTV cameras, while every metro train has around 12 CCTV cameras installed.
UPMRC Managing Director Sushil Kumar said, “The successful completion of the three-day CMRS inspection of Kanpur Metro’s Balance Section marks a significant milestone for the project. This achievement reflects the dedication, coordination and meticulous planning of the entire team. All technical and safety tests conducted during the inspection were completed successfully, reaffirming our commitment to the highest standards of quality and passenger safety. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the entire team for this achievement.”
He further added, “Safety has been the foremost priority in the design and construction of Kanpur Metro stations. The CCTV surveillance system has been planned to eliminate blind spots and ensure comprehensive monitoring throughout the station premises. Special emphasis has also been placed on the safety and convenience of women passengers by ensuring adequate deployment of women security personnel and housekeeping staff. The station concourses have been designed to provide clear visibility across all areas, while transparent glass has been extensively used at key locations such as lifts, Station Control Rooms and ticket counters to enhance surveillance and operational safety.”
