Lucknow: Lucknow Bioscope hosted “Mah-e-Garv: Lucknow’s Queer Pride – Open Mic” on Sunday, bringing together artists, writers, performers and community members for an evening dedicated to identity, expression and inclusivity. Held at Lucknow Bioscope on JC Bose Marg, the event created a welcoming platform for participants to share stories, experiences and creative performances while celebrating the city’s diverse queer community.
The programme opened with a captivating Kathak performance by Sanjeev, who began with a traditional Durga Stuti before presenting a series of expressive narrative pieces. Reflecting on his performance, he described art as a powerful medium of self-expression and resilience, adding that Goddess Durga symbolizes both femininity and strength in his personal journey.
The evening also featured a poetry recital titled “Pyar ki Parakh” by 19-year-old Sikhar Maurya, which encouraged meaningful conversations around love, understanding and acceptance. Participants from different backgrounds shared personal experiences, reflections and creative expressions, transforming the gathering into a vibrant celebration of individuality and community spirit.
Adding a cinematic dimension to the event, attendees watched a screening of “IYKYK (If You Know You Know)”, directed by Bonita Rajpurohit, sparking discussions on representation and contemporary queer narratives.
Highlighting the significance of such initiatives, organiser Aisha Khatoon said that inclusive spaces are essential for building a society where every community can progress together. She emphasized that mutual support and collective efforts are key to achieving equality and social harmony.

Another organiser, Manjari, noted that platforms like Mah-e-Garv play an important role in fostering understanding and respect among people from diverse backgrounds. She said such gatherings help communities learn how to acknowledge differences while standing together in solidarity.
Mah-e-Garv is an initiative aimed at celebrating Lucknow’s queer community by providing a safe, inclusive and supportive environment where individuals can connect, share experiences and express themselves freely. Through art, dialogue and community engagement, the event seeks to promote acceptance, visibility and a stronger sense of belonging.
The evening concluded on a positive note, reinforcing the importance of cultural and community-driven spaces that encourage diversity, creativity and meaningful social engagement.
