Uttar Pradesh Moving from the ‘Bahubali Era’ to the ‘Bio Era’: Rajnath Singh

Lucknow: On the occasion of World Environment Day, a major initiative promoting sustainable development and environmental conservation was launched in Lucknow under the joint aegis of Balrampur Chini Mills Limited (BCML) and the Lucknow Cantonment Board. The programme, titled “Bioyug Green Command-2026,” was inaugurated by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who highlighted the growing importance of bio-based solutions in addressing environmental challenges.

Addressing the gathering, Rajnath Singh described the adoption of bioplastics as a crucial step towards environmental sustainability. He warned that microplastics generated from conventional plastic products have emerged as a serious threat to human health, water resources, soil quality, and marine ecosystems. He emphasized that PLA (Polylactic Acid)-based bioplastics, manufactured from sugarcane, offer an eco-friendly alternative as they naturally decompose and do not contribute to long-term pollution.

Highlighting Uttar Pradesh’s progress in developing a bio-based economy, the Defence Minister remarked that the state is moving beyond the “Bahubali Era” and entering the “Bio Era.” He said the growing emphasis on sugarcane-based bio-economy initiatives reflects a shift towards innovation, sustainability, and economic empowerment. Praising BCML’s efforts, he noted that such initiatives would boost farmers’ incomes, reduce dependence on imported raw materials, and strengthen the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India).

A key highlight of the event was the formal launch of a partnership between BCML and the Lucknow Cantonment Board for the adoption and promotion of bioplastics. An exhibition showcasing the bioplastic value chain was also organized, providing insights into the production and applications of sustainable materials. Additionally, female ITI students who had successfully completed training in 3D printing technology were felicitated for their achievements.

BCML Chairman and Managing Director Vivek Saraogi stated that biomaterials are set to become the foundation of the future economy and will play a significant role in creating sustainable industrial ecosystems. Executive Director Avantika Saraogi described the initiative as a win-win model for farmers, industry, and the environment, calling it an important step toward building a greener and more sustainable India.

According to media coordinator Anurag Sahu, the event was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, BJP Lucknow Metropolitan President Anand Dwivedi, MLA O.P. Srivastava, Chief Minister’s Advisor Awanish Awasthi, BCML CMD Vivek Saraogi, BCML Executive Director Avantika Saraogi, Manoj Singh, Additional Chief Secretary Veena Meena, Joint Secretary (Sugar), Government of India Ashwini Srivastava, along with several senior government officials, industry leaders, and distinguished guests.

The launch of “Bioyug Green Command-2026” marks a significant step in promoting sustainable alternatives, strengthening the bio-economy, and encouraging environmentally responsible practices in Uttar Pradesh and beyond.
