‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ Campaign Will Give New Momentum to Environmental Conservation: Minister A.K. Sharma

Jaunpur: Marking World Environment Day, Uttar Pradesh’s Urban Development and Energy Minister and Jaunpur District In-Charge Minister A.K. Sharma participated in a large-scale plantation drive at the Police Lines campus in Jaunpur and called upon citizens to actively contribute to environmental protection through tree plantation.

The programme was organized as part of the integrated public welfare and awareness campaign being conducted across the state from June 5 to June 21, 2026, commemorating the completion of 12 years of the Central Government.

On the occasion, Minister Sharma planted a camphor sapling under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” (One Tree in Mother’s Name) campaign and emphasized the importance of collective efforts in safeguarding the environment.

Addressing the gathering, Sharma extended World Environment Day greetings to residents and said the occasion serves as a reminder of humanity’s responsibility towards nature. He noted that a clean and healthy environment is essential for human well-being and requires active participation from every citizen.

The minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign is being implemented across Uttar Pradesh with extensive public participation. He informed that plantation activities are being carried out in all development blocks and gram panchayats of Jaunpur district, with efforts underway to achieve the designated plantation targets.

Highlighting the significance of community involvement, Sharma said environmental conservation cannot be achieved through government initiatives alone. “Tree plantation is one of the simplest, most effective and sustainable ways to protect the environment,” he remarked, urging people not only to plant saplings but also to nurture them until they grow into healthy trees.

He further announced that plantation activities would be intensified during the upcoming monsoon season to expand green cover and ensure a cleaner, healthier environment for future generations.

Several public representatives and government officials also participated in the plantation drive and pledged their commitment to environmental conservation.

Among those present were Seema Dwivedi, former MLA R. Patel, former Maharashtra Minister of State for Home Kripa Shankar Singh, District BJP President Ajit Prajapati, District Magistrate Samool Pal, Superintendent of Police Kunwar Anupam Singh and other elected representatives and officials.
