Lucknow: A tree plantation and environmental awareness programme was organized at the campuses of Ramakrishna Math and Vivekananda Polyclinic on the occasion of World Environment Day, reaffirming the institutions’ commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable living.
The programme was led by Swami Muktinathananda, Secretary of Ramakrishna Mission Sevashrama, Lucknow, who planted a Sita Ashok sapling at Ramakrishna Math and a sandalwood sapling at the college campus. Speaking on the occasion, he highlighted the religious, cultural and medicinal significance of both trees and stressed the urgent need to protect the environment in the face of growing pollution, deforestation and climate-related challenges.
Referring to the World Environment Day 2026 theme, “Inspired by Nature: For Climate, For Our Future,” Swami Muktinathananda called upon citizens to actively participate in tree plantation drives, adopt green lifestyles and contribute towards achieving carbon neutrality. He emphasized that environmental protection is a shared responsibility that requires collective action at both individual and community levels.
As part of the celebrations, Vivekananda Polyclinic School and College of Nursing, Lucknow, organized a series of activities aimed at promoting environmental awareness among students and faculty members. A plantation drive was conducted to encourage participants to understand the importance of increasing green cover and conserving natural resources.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from Principal Dr. N. Venkatalakshmi, faculty members and students. Participants were encouraged not only to plant saplings but also to adopt and nurture them to ensure their healthy growth and long-term survival.

Environmental messages and awareness slogans were shared throughout the programme, inspiring students to reduce pollution, conserve natural resources and contribute to environmental protection through sustained efforts. Students also pledged to promote eco-friendly practices and support initiatives aimed at preserving nature.
Adding a creative dimension to the celebrations, students actively participated in a wall-painting activity focused on environmental conservation and sustainable development. Through vibrant artworks and visual messages, they highlighted the importance of protecting nature and inspired their peers to incorporate environmentally responsible behaviour into their daily lives.
The programme concluded with a collective commitment to environmental stewardship, underscoring the role of educational and spiritual institutions in fostering awareness and encouraging sustainable practices for a greener and healthier future.
