Lucknow: In a major breakthrough, the Sushant Golf City Police Station and the surveillance team of the southern zone successfully solved a murder case within 24 hours and arrested the accused involved in the killing of a 22-year-old woman in Lucknow.
Police said the body of an unidentified woman was found near the forests adjoining the Utretia railway line under Awas Vikas Yojana on May 18. Officers reaching the spot discovered multiple severe head injuries, suggesting a brutal assault. The deceased was later identified as Shivani, a resident of Eldeco Udyan-2 under the PGI police station area, who had been missing since May 17 after leaving home for work.
Based on a complaint filed by her mother Geeta, police registered a murder case and formed four special teams under the supervision of senior officers. Using CCTV footage, electronic surveillance, and local intelligence, investigators traced and arrested Prem Kumar Manjhi from near Sector-8 underpass on Shaheed Path.

During interrogation, the accused revealed that he had been friends with Shivani for nearly seven to eight years. However, he had recently become upset over her growing closeness with another male friend. Police said the accused took Shivani to the isolated area on his motorcycle on the night of May 17, strangled her using a rubber pipe, and later crushed her head with a cemented brick to ensure her death. He also admitted to throwing her mobile phone into the Telibagh canal after the crime.
Police recovered the cemented brick used in the murder and have sent the accused to judicial custody after completing legal formalities.
