Kolkata: Along with the whole country, the battle of Lok Sabha elections is getting interesting in West Bengal too. During the counting of votes on Tuesday, the ruling party TMC is leading in 32 of the 42 seats in the state. The main opposition party BJP is leading in only nine seats. Congress is leading in the remaining one seat. Congress candidate Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury is leading in Murshidabad’s Baharampur Lok Sabha seat.
Trinamool candidate Haji Nurul Islam is leading by 2 lakh 40 thousand 803 votes in Basirhat. By noon, he has got 4 lakh 52 thousand 559 votes. After these trends, Trinamool workers have started celebrating. Rekha Patra, the main face of the Sandeshkhali movement, is trailing by 2.5 lakh votes in the state’s famous Basirhat seat. Rekha has got 2 lakh 11 thousand 756 votes. Now the possibility of her victory is fading. Rekha Patra said that those who win in the beginning, lose in the end. Many believe that the chances are less due to the difference in votes between Rekha and Haji Nurul in Basirhat. Meanwhile, the BJP party office in Sandeshkhali has been set on fire, for which workers of the ruling party Trinamool Congress have been held responsible.
Interesting contest
The contest in Hooghly district was interesting since morning and BJP candidates were leading in Hooghly and Arambagh Lok Sabha seats. While Trinamool Congress candidate Kalyan Banerjee was leading from Srirampur, but around 1 pm, Trinamool candidates took the lead in all three seats. Barrackpore’s outgoing MP Arjun Singh, who returned to BJP from Trinamool before the elections, is trailing by 10 thousand votes. His center’s Trinamool candidate Partha Bhowmik is leading. Saugata Roy is leading by 8184 votes in Dum Dum, Trinamool’s Kakli Ghosh Dastidar is leading by 39 thousand 880 votes in Barasat. In Bongaon, outgoing Union Minister and BJP candidate Shantanu Thakur is leading by 5022 votes. BJP candidate Dilip Ghosh is trailing from Durgapur Burdwan Lok Sabha seat and former Calcutta High Court judge Abhijit Ganguly is also trailing from Tamluk. Trinamool candidate Devangshu Bhattacharya is ahead of him by seven thousand votes.
