Boost for Uttar Pradesh Connectivity: New Amrit Bharat Trains to Link Ayodhya and Varanasi with Mumbai and Pune

Ayodhya: In a significant push to rail connectivity for Uttar Pradesh, the Government of India has announced the launch of two new Amrit Bharat Express trains linking key religious and cultural hubs of the state with major economic centres in Maharashtra. The trains—Varanasi to Pune (Hadapsar) and Ayodhya to Mumbai (Lokmanya Tilak Terminus)—will be flagged off by the Prime Minister on April 28, 2026.

The initiative is expected to greatly benefit passengers from Uttar Pradesh, particularly pilgrims, students, migrant workers, and small traders who frequently travel between North India and Maharashtra. By directly connecting cities like Varanasi and Ayodhya with Mumbai and Pune, the new services aim to reduce travel time, improve convenience, and provide an affordable long-distance travel option.

The Amrit Bharat Express has been designed as a non-AC, high-capacity train service focused on common passengers, offering enhanced comfort and modern facilities at economical fares. With improved coach design, better seating arrangements, and upgraded passenger amenities, the train seeks to elevate the experience of general-class travel in India.

For Uttar Pradesh, this development holds special significance as it strengthens both religious tourism and economic mobility. Varanasi and Ayodhya, being major spiritual destinations, attract millions of devotees annually. Enhanced rail connectivity to metropolitan cities like Mumbai and Pune is expected to boost tourism, facilitate smoother movement of people, and support livelihoods linked to these sectors.

The move also reflects the Centre’s continued focus on improving infrastructure and connectivity in Uttar Pradesh, aligning with broader efforts to integrate regional economies and ensure inclusive development through accessible transportation networks.
