Lucknow: The ever-growing popularity of the Indian Premier League continues to reshape the landscape of Indian cricket. With each passing season, the tournament not only fuels excitement among fans but also influences the approach of aspiring cricketers, many of whom now tailor their game specifically for the fast-paced T20 format. Uttar Pradesh, too, has embraced this evolution, with local tournaments flourishing across cities and villages, nurturing a new generation of talent.
This year, 13 players from the state have been selected across various IPL franchises. As the tournament reaches its midway stage, their performances present a mixed yet intriguing picture.
Veteran swing bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar continues to defy time with his exceptional control and movement. Representing Royal Challengers Bengaluru, he remains a potent force in the powerplay overs. With 10 wickets in 7 matches this season, he has once again proven why he is among the most reliable bowlers in IPL history, having already crossed the 200-wicket milestone.
From Kanpur, Kuldeep Yadav remains a key figure for Delhi Capitals. While he has taken 7 wickets in 7 matches, his economy rate of around 10 runs per over has been slightly on the higher side for a bowler of his caliber.
Young wicketkeeper-batsman Dhruv Jurel has shown flashes of brilliance for Rajasthan Royals. With 181 runs in 7 matches, along with 3 stumpings and 6 catches, he has contributed significantly. However, inconsistency in recent matches suggests the need for a more measured approach at the crease.
Meerut’s rising star Sameer Rizvi has been one of the standout performers for Delhi Capitals. His impressive 209 runs in 6 matches include two match-winning knocks early in the tournament, showcasing both temperament and class.
On the other hand, Rinku Singh has had a relatively subdued season. With 136 runs in 7 matches, he has struggled to match expectations, though his unbeaten 53 in a recent game hints at a return to form. Personal challenges and recent setbacks may have played a role in his dip in performance.
Pacer Kartik Tyagi, representing Kolkata Knight Riders, has picked up 7 wickets in 7 matches but has been somewhat expensive, conceding runs at around 10 per over. Greater tactical discipline could enhance his impact.

Lucknow’s Vipraj Nigam had a promising start with Delhi Capitals but struggled to maintain consistency. With just 1 wicket and 55 runs conceded in limited opportunities, he was dropped after the initial matches.
All-rounder Prashant Veer, acquired by Chennai Super Kings for a significant sum, showed promise with a well-made 43 in his second outing. Surprisingly, he has not been given further opportunities, and his bowling skills remain untested.
Yash Dayal, retained by RCB, has missed the season due to legal issues, marking an unfortunate absence.
Meanwhile, Moradabad’s Mohsin Khan has made an impressive comeback from injury. In 3 matches, he has maintained an excellent economy rate of 6.58, emerging as one of the most economical bowlers in his category.
Zeeshan Ansari, despite being retained by Sunrisers Hyderabad, is yet to feature in a match this season. Similarly, Shivam Mavi, once an India representative, has not found a place in the playing XI.
Lastly, young pacer Naman Tewari of Lucknow Super Giants is still awaiting his opportunity to make his IPL debut this season.
Overall, Uttar Pradesh’s representation in IPL 2026 reflects both promise and challenges. While some players have seized their opportunities and delivered impactful performances, others are still striving for consistency or waiting for a chance to prove themselves. As the tournament progresses, these players will look to elevate their game and further strengthen Uttar Pradesh’s growing influence in the world of T20 cricket.
