Lucknow: A young woman in Lucknow has accused a man of luring her into a relationship, marrying her at an Arya Samaj temple, forcing her to undergo an abortion when she became pregnant, and subjecting her to continued harassment. Despite an FIR being registered at Para police station, the main accused has not been arrested even 15 days later, raising questions over the pace of the investigation.
According to the complaint, the accused, identified as Shyamveer, a resident of Birahimpur under Malihabad police station limits in Lucknow, allegedly assured the woman of marriage and solemnized a ceremony at an Arya Samaj temple on June 30, 2025. She claims that he lived with her for some time after the marriage.
The woman has alleged that upon learning about her pregnancy, the accused pressured her to terminate it and that the abortion was carried out against her will. She further accused him of continuing physical and mental harassment afterward.
Allegations of Threats and Coercion
In her statement, the complainant alleged that the accused and his family members pressured her to form relationships with other men and assaulted her when she resisted. She also claimed that she and her family were threatened with dire consequences. According to her, the accused’s family allegedly demanded money, warning that they would kill her and destroy evidence if their demands were not met.
She has named the accused’s father, brother, and sister as being involved in the alleged threats and harassment.
FIR Registered, No Arrest Yet
The woman filed a written complaint at Para police station in Lucknow, following which a case was registered under relevant sections. However, she alleges that no arrest has been made even after 15 days. She has further claimed that she is being pressured to reach a compromise, while she fears for her safety and that of her family.

Police Response
Local police officials have stated that the matter is serious and that an investigation is underway. Authorities said medical documents, marriage-related papers, and other evidence are being collected. They added that efforts are being made to trace the accused and that necessary action will be taken based on the findings.
Police have denied allegations of exerting pressure for a settlement and said steps are being taken to ensure the complainant’s safety.
Legal Perspective
Legal experts note that forcing a woman to undergo an abortion without her consent constitutes a serious offense under the Indian Penal Code and the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act. Similarly, establishing physical relations under the pretext of marriage, along with harassment and criminal intimidation, are punishable offenses if proven.
The woman has appealed to the administration for swift arrest of the accused and adequate security. She has also alleged that Shyamveer has a prior criminal history involving theft cases, though these claims have not been independently verified. Police have stated that they are examining the accused’s criminal record as part of the ongoing investigation.
