Uttar Pradesh to Emerge as India’s Largest Healthcare and Medical Technology Hub: CM Yogi Adityanath

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday said the state is set to become the country’s largest hub for healthcare, medical technology, and pharmaceutical manufacturing, as he inaugurated UP HealthTech Conclave 1.0 in Lucknow. He asserted that Uttar Pradesh is not only home to nearly 25 crore people but also caters to the healthcare needs of over 35 crore people from neighboring states, making it India’s biggest healthcare consumer market.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh has witnessed historic transformation in the health sector over the past nearly nine years. “The results of these reforms are now clearly visible on the ground,” he said, adding that the government’s goal has been to ensure quality and dignified healthcare for every citizen, including those at the last mile.

CM Yogi highlighted that before 2017, Uttar Pradesh had only 40 medical colleges across government and private sectors. Today, the number has risen to 81 fully functional medical colleges, along with two AIIMS, over 100 district hospitals, and a strong network of Community Health Centres (CHCs), Primary Health Centres (PHCs), and Health and Wellness Centres, extending free healthcare services to rural and remote areas.

Referring to the Ayushman Bharat–Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, the Chief Minister said that 5.5 crore families in the state have been issued Ayushman Golden Cards, providing free treatment of up to ₹5 lakh per family. Families not covered under the central scheme have been included under the Mukhyamantri Jan Arogya Yojana, ensuring universal health security for the poor.

CM Yogi also noted significant improvements in health indicators, including a sharp decline in maternal and infant mortality rates and effective control over diseases such as tuberculosis, dengue, malaria, kala-azar, and chikungunya. He said encephalitis, which claimed nearly 50,000 children’s lives over four decades, has now been brought under complete control, with zero deaths being reported.

Emphasizing technology-driven healthcare, he said telemedicine, AI-based screening, and teleconsultation would strengthen “ease of living” by ensuring early diagnosis at village-level health facilities. He also announced rapid development of a Medical Device Park in the Yamuna Expressway region and a Bulk Drug Pharma Park in Lalitpur, positioning Uttar Pradesh as a global manufacturing hub.

During the event, CM Yogi launched the UP-IMRAS (Integrated Medical Research Application System) software, a digital platform designed to streamline clinical trials and medical research, and released a book on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Institutional Ethics Committees. He invited domestic and global investors to invest in Uttar Pradesh, assuring them of robust infrastructure, a safe environment, and time-bound approvals through a single-window system.
