Lucknow: Former international hockey player and noted sports administrator Dr. R.P. Singh has been appointed as a member of the Jury of Appeal for the upcoming FIH Men’s Junior Hockey World Cup. The prestigious tournament will be held in Tamil Nadu from November 28 to December 10, 2025. The confirmation was issued through an official letter by International Hockey Federation (FIH) President Tayyab Ikram.
Dr. Singh, who currently serves as the Chief Selector of Hockey India and the Sports Director of Uttar Pradesh, described the appointment as a matter of great responsibility and honour. He had also served as the Chief Selector for the Indian hockey team during the Paris Olympics.
A former captain of the Indian hockey team, Dr. R.P. Singh has had an illustrious sporting career, representing India in two Asian Games—Seoul 1986 and Beijing 1990—where the team secured medals. He was also part of the 1989 Asia Cup medal-winning squad.

Dr. Singh represented India in two World Cups—London 1986 and Lahore 1990—and was a member of the gold medal–winning team at the 1988 Pre-Olympic tournament. He also featured in the victorious Sultan Azlan Shah Cup campaign and currently serves as the President of Uttar Pradesh Hockey.
Under his leadership, Uttar Pradesh has hosted several major national and international hockey events, including the 2016 Junior Hockey World Cup in Lucknow and the 2019 Indo-France Women’s Hockey Test Series. His contribution continues to significantly shape the growth and promotion of hockey in the state and the country.
