Hundreds Join 2-Km Walk Promoting Healthy Living
Lucknow: To mark World Diabetes Day, the Departments of Endocrinology and Pediatric Endocrinology at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) organized a special walkathon on Sunday, November 9. The event, themed “Small Steps, Big Impact: Live Healthy with Diabetes,” aimed to raise awareness about diabetes prevention and management through simple, sustainable lifestyle changes.
The morning began with a 2-kilometre walk inside the SGPGI campus, where nearly 250 participants — including faculty members, resident doctors, students, nursing staff, technical personnel, and other employees — took part with enthusiasm. The initiative sought to emphasize the importance of regular physical activity and to remind the public that small, consistent efforts can lead to lasting health benefits.
Senior faculty members addressed the gathering, highlighting the critical role of early detection, lifestyle modification, and community participation in reducing the burden of diabetes.

Among the speakers were Dr. Manoj Jain, Acting Director of SGPGI; Dr. Preeti Dabargav, Dr. Subhash Yadav, Dr. Aditya Kapoor, Dr. Narayan Prasad, Dr. S.K. Agrawal, Dr. Naveen Garg, and Dr. Manjusha Garg. They underscored the growing challenge of diabetes in India and urged healthcare professionals to lead by example in promoting healthy habits.
Faculty member Dr. Prashant from the Department of Endocrinology shared practical tips on diabetes prevention, stressing the importance of a balanced diet, regular exercise, weight control, and stress management. His message reinforced the central theme — that small, consistent steps can bring about big, lasting health impacts.
The walkathon successfully blended awareness, education, and community engagement, serving as a meaningful contribution to SGPGI’s World Diabetes Day observances and reaffirming the institute’s commitment to public health and wellness.
