Environmental Awareness Walk Organised at RMLIMS

Director and Chief Medical Superintendent Lead the Initiative

Lucknow: An environmental awareness rally was organised on Monday at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS) under the aegis of ICMR, IAPSM, and the Department of Community Medicine as part of the “One Health Initiative.”

The event aimed to promote environmental conservation, pollution control, cleanliness, and biodiversity awareness, while strengthening the integrated approach to human, animal, and environmental health.

Institute Director Prof. C.M. Singh graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, alongside Chief Medical Superintendent Prof. Vikram Singh, Head of the Department of Community Medicine Dr. Kandpal, Dr. Manish, and other faculty members and students.

The walk commenced from the institute campus, with over 100 medical and nursing students participating. Carrying banners, posters, and placards, the participants spread messages of environmental protection, waste management, green energy, and sustainable development. The campus echoed with slogans such as “Clean Environment – Healthy Life” and “Green Campus, Healthy Future.”

In his address, Prof. C.M. Singh emphasized the essence of the One Health approach, stating:

“One Health is an integrated perspective that recognizes the deep interconnection between human, animal, and environmental health. The COVID-19 pandemic has taught us that safeguarding human health is impossible without protecting animals and the environment.”

He added that the institute continues to play a leading role in advancing public awareness and community engagement in support of the One Health principle, urging students to become ambassadors of environmental protection and adopt sustainable habits in daily life.

Prof. Vikram Singh, Chief Medical Superintendent, noted that RMLIMS has always taken proactive initiatives for public health and community welfare, and this event marked another step in that direction.

Dr. Kandpal, Head of the Community Medicine Department, remarked that such programmes nurture both social responsibility and environmental consciousness among students—an integral component of medical education.

The event concluded with an environmental pledge, where all participants vowed to contribute to building a clean, green, and healthy India.

It was highlighted that the Government of India has launched a National One Health Mission to encourage interdepartmental collaboration for a safer and healthier future. Adopting the One Health approach, the speakers agreed, is a vital step toward a sustainable and resilient tomorrow.
