458th Shri Ramleela Begins in Bareilly with Emotional Depiction of Shiva–Sati and Shiva–Parvati Episodes

BareillyThe historic 458th Shri Ramleela commenced in Chaudhary Mohalla, Bareilly, with traditional rituals and the auspicious worship of Lord Ganesha. Organized under the banner of Shri Rani Mahalaxmi Bai Ramleela Samiti (Regd.), the opening evening of the grand cultural event left devotees deeply moved with its stirring portrayals.

This year’s staging began with the “Sati Moh” episode, in which Goddess Sati attends the sacrificial ritual of her father, Daksha Prajapati, and witnesses the insult directed at Lord Shiva. Unable to bear the humiliation of her divine consort, she immolates herself—a powerful and emotional scene that brought tears to many in the audience.

The performance then transitioned into the story of Sati’s rebirth as Parvati, followed by her devotion and penance to win Lord Shiva as her husband. The depiction of the sacred union between Shiva and Parvati was presented with devotion and grandeur, captivating spectators.

The centuries-old Ramleela of Bareilly has long been a center of faith and tradition, drawing devotees and theatre enthusiasts alike. With its blend of spirituality, drama, and cultural vibrancy, the 458th edition once again reaffirmed its legacy of preserving age-old traditions while evoking devotion and collective reverence among the people.
