Demand to Make the Film “The Bengal Files” Tax-Free in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow – A formal appeal has been made to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to declare the recently released film “The Bengal Files” tax-free in the state. The request came through a letter written by Sanjay Sharma, a legal activist and resident of Rajajipuram, Lucknow.

In his letter, Sharma argued that the film, which depicts historical events and socio-ethnic conflicts in Bengal, is of significant national importance and could serve as an inspiration for the youth. He stressed that the movie exposes political conspiracies, social disharmony, and historical struggles, allowing the public to better understand past realities.

The activist also noted that the film can be an educational tool promoting social harmony, justice, and unity, particularly among students and young audiences. Citing precedent, he pointed out that the Uttar Pradesh government had earlier granted tax exemptions to films like “The Sabarmati Report”, which carried historical and educational value.

Making the film tax-free, Sharma argued, would reduce ticket prices and enable economically weaker sections, students, and women to watch it easily. He further suggested that the government promote the film actively, organize special screenings for students and government employees, and recognize the filmmakers at the state level.

Sharma concluded by urging the Chief Minister to consider the demand, saying that under his “positive vision and strong leadership,” “The Bengal Files” could spread a powerful message of truth, unity, and patriotism in society.
