6th Taekwondo Hall of Fame Concludes in Lucknow, Honouring Champions and Pioneers of the Sport

Lucknow: Celebrating 49 glorious years of Taekwondo in India, the 6th Taekwondo Hall of Fame was held in grand fashion at the prestigious Halwasiya Court, Hazratganj in Lucknow. The event served as a tribute to the remarkable journey of Taekwondo in the country and recognized the contributions of athletes, trainers, masters, and grandmasters who have dedicated their lives to this martial art.

The man behind this historic initiative was Dr. GM Jimmy R. Jagtiani, widely hailed as the Father and Founder of Taekwondo in India. Dr. Jagtiani was instrumental in introducing Taekwondo to India 49 years ago, and his relentless efforts have helped embed the sport deeply into India’s martial arts culture.

The event was graced by Pawan Singh Chauhan, Member of Legislative Council and President of the Taekwondo Federation of India, who served as the Chief Guest. In his motivational address, Chauhan emphasized the role of Taekwondo in instilling discipline, self-defense, and inner strength among youth. He assured that the Uttar Pradesh government remains committed to the holistic development of sports and would continue to support such initiatives.

Awardees at the ceremony included national athletes, lifetime achievers, pioneers, senior instructors, international players, masters, and grandmasters. Each honoree received a diploma, certificate of merit, commemorative medal, and a ceremonial tie. These honours not only celebrated individual excellence but also symbolized the collective strength and legacy of India’s Taekwondo fraternity.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Jagtiani reflected on the sport’s journey since 1975. He remarked, “Today, millions of Indian youths are engaged with Taekwondo. It has become an integral part of physical education in schools, colleges, and universities. This Hall of Fame is not merely a felicitation event—it is a celebration of a community.”

He further announced that the 50th Golden Jubilee celebration in 2026 would be organized on an even grander scale to mark five decades of Taekwondo’s presence in India.

The 6th Taekwondo Hall of Fame stands as a shining milestone in the history of Indian martial arts—honouring the veterans and motivating a new generation to carry forward the spirit of Taekwondo.
