₹25,000 Rewarded Gangster Act Accused Arrested by Lucknow Police Commissionerate

Lucknow: The Vikas Nagar Police Station team of the Lucknow Police Commissionerate arrested a wanted accused carrying a reward of ₹25,000 in connection with a Gangster Act case.

The accused, identified as Mohit Yadav, was arrested on May 24, 2026, at around 7:20 pm from Tilai Bazaar under the Mauaima police station area of Prayagraj district. Police said the accused was informed about the grounds of arrest and is being produced before the court for judicial custody remand.

According to police officials, Mohit Yadav and his associates were allegedly involved in serious criminal offences registered under Case Crime No. 46/2025 at Vikas Nagar Police Station, including multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act. Police informed that a chargesheet in the matter has already been filed and cognizance has been taken by the court.

During investigation, authorities found that the accused was allegedly part of an active and organized interstate criminal gang involved in creating fear and terror among the public to discourage witnesses and prevent victims from filing complaints. Police stated that the gang was allegedly engaged in kidnapping, extortion, disturbing public order, and other serious criminal activities for economic and material gain.

Keeping public and state interest in view, Alok Kumar Singh registered Case Crime No. 47/2026 under the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act, 1986 and its 2015 amendment on March 17, 2026. The investigation is currently being handled by the inspector in-charge of Ghaziabad Police Station.

Police further revealed that Mohit Yadav had challenged the FIR, gang chart, and related proceedings before the Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court through Criminal Miscellaneous Writ Petition No. 3360 of 2026. However, the High Court, through its order dated April 20, 2026, upheld the legality of the proceedings and dismissed the petition. The court also reportedly interpreted provisions of the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Rules, 2022, treating the order as a precedent for future cases.

Police described the accused as a habitual offender allegedly involved in crimes affecting public order and state security, including kidnapping for ransom and intimidation aimed at spreading fear and panic.

Mohit Yadav, aged about 28 years, is a resident of Harkhpur village under Mauaima police station in Prayagraj district. Police records show that he has a criminal history spanning eight cases, including charges related to rioting, kidnapping, murder, extortion, forgery, arms offences, and organized crime.

The arrest operation was carried out by a police team led by Alok Kumar Singh, along with Sub-Inspector Jitendra Kumar Singh, Sub-Inspector Amarnath Chaurasia, Head Constable Rishi Kumar Tiwari, Constables Raghvendra Pratap Singh, Ajay Yadav, Pradeep Kumar and Shivanand Kharwal.
