U.P. aspires to become TB free

Lucknow: Under the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan-2025, a program to adopt 74 TB patients was held at Raj Bhavan  under the chairmanship of the Governor of the state,  Anandiben Patel. Describing the program organized at Raj Bhavan as the best program of the year, the Governor said that making someone’s life better should be our goal.

Describing Uttar Pradesh as the most populous state, she said that the work towards TB elimination should also be maximum here. She said that the tradition of HPV vaccination and adoption of TB patients was started to work towards eliminating cervical cancer and TB among women and girls. She said that the mentality of the society towards daughters should be improved. There should be no discrimination between son and daughter.

The Governor said that TB patients are also adopted in the programs of district tour. In this sequence, while sharing his memories as the Governor of Madhya Pradesh, he told that there also, the tradition of adoption of TB patients by the officers and employees of the Raj Bhavan was started by him.

The Governor said that the Poshan Potli given to the TB patients should be used only for their use and the Nikshay Mitras should also pay attention to the education of the adopted children. The Governor directed to organize various programs in the Raj Bhavan on the occasion of Seva Pakhwada from 17 September to 02 October. She said that service should be made one’s nature. When the nature is of service, then the culture will come automatically. She called for preventing wastage of food grains and ensuring the availability of nutritious food to women. She said that the role of teachers and the health department is important in making the society knowledgeable, healthy and strong.

The Governor also called upon all IAS officers, employees/officials of the Health Department and other departments to adopt TB patients and provide them with Poshan Potli (food packets), so that the dream of a TB-free India can be realised. On this occasion, the Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister of the state,  Brajesh Pathak said that until India is healthy, we cannot move ahead rapidly.

Appreciating the Governor’s initiative of identifying and adopting TB patients, he said that it has been followed by all the states and TB patients are being provided a safe life. He said that identifying TB patients is a challenge and a big effort is being made to eradicate TB by identifying these patients through ASHA workers and health workers and adopting them through NGOs, officers, employees, public representatives. He said that the nutrition material and the money provided should be used for the benefit of children.

In the program, Principal Secretary Health, Partha Sarathi Sen Sharma explained in detail about the Nikshayamitra concept and the efforts being made for TB elimination. In today’s program, a total of 74 TB patients were adopted by 38 officials of the Raj Bhavan, Vice Chancellors, officers and employees of various universities located in Lucknow and were provided with Poshan Potli. At the beginning of the program, a video film was presented on TB Mukt Abhiyan – Sankalp se Siddhi Tak.

On this occasion, Additional Chief Secretary, Shri Governor Dr. Sudhir Mahadev Bobde, Director General Medical and Health Services Uttar Pradesh Dr. Brajesh Singh Rathore, Vice Chancellors, officers, employees of various universities located in Lucknow, all officers / employees of Raj Bhavan, TB patients and their families etc. were present.
