SBI Employees Take Protest to Political Level, Submit Demands to MPs

Lucknow: As part of their ongoing protest programme ahead of the proposed nationwide strike on May 25–26, representatives of the All India State Bank of India Staff Federation met senior political leaders in Lucknow on Monday and submitted memorandums highlighting their long-pending demands.

The delegation met Rajya Sabha MP and former Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma, who is also a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance, as well as Barabanki MP Tanuj Punia at their residences in the city.

During the meetings, union representatives including Ashutosh Verma, Brijesh Tiwari, Shiv Kumar Singh, Tarakeshwar Chauhan, Rakesh Kumar, Amit Singh and other office-bearers apprised the MPs of the key issues being faced by SBI employees across the country.

The federation highlighted several long-standing demands, including recruitment of messengers and armed guards, adequate staffing in branches, and an immediate end to outsourcing in permanent positions. Employees also demanded reforms in the medical reimbursement system and resolution of pension-related anomalies, stating that these issues have remained unresolved for a long time despite repeated representations.

Union leaders informed that the SBI employees’ federation is continuing its nationwide struggle at various levels to press for these demands and ensure timely intervention by authorities.

Media in-charge Anil Tiwari said that the protest programme for May includes a series of phased actions. On May 20, a nationwide campaign will be carried out on X (formerly Twitter), followed by a memorandum submission to the Prime Minister on May 21.

He further said that on May 22, demonstrations and candle marches will be organised at all centres across the country. If the demands are not addressed even after these programmes, employees will go ahead with a two-day nationwide strike on May 25 and 26.
