Chennai: Chennai Super Kings delivered a commanding performance in the Indian Premier League 2026 season, defeating Delhi Capitals by eight wickets in a clinical chase.
Following the victory, former cricketers and JioStar experts Irfan Pathan and Mark Boucher praised the performances of Sanju Samson, rising youngster Kartik Sharma and spinner Akeal Hosein during JioHotstar’s Google Search AI Mode Match Centre Live.
Pathan described Samson as a batter currently operating at the peak of his abilities, highlighting the wicketkeeper-batter’s tactical awareness and composure under pressure. According to him, Samson showed excellent judgment in choosing which bowlers to attack and which to play cautiously against during the chase.
Pathan noted that Samson carefully negotiated the threat posed by Lungi Ngidi before accelerating against less threatening bowling options. He added that Samson’s growing ability to finish games consistently, especially on difficult batting surfaces, reflects the maturity and confidence of a batter in top form.
The former India all-rounder also reserved special praise for young batter Kartik Sharma, calling attention to his fearless approach and strong strokeplay against spin bowling. Pathan said Sharma’s ability to dominate the off-side and read variations, including googlies, makes him a difficult batter to contain during the middle overs.
He further pointed out that Sharma has already shown the confidence to take on both pace and spin attacks, with his aggressive cover drives against quality spinners indicating a broad range of shot-making ability that could shape his long-term development.

Meanwhile, former South Africa captain Mark Boucher commended Samson’s calm leadership during the chase. Boucher said the senior batter absorbed pressure effectively, maintained control of the innings and accelerated at crucial moments without appearing rushed.
According to Boucher, Samson’s partnership with a younger batter also highlighted his role as a mentor in the middle, helping guide the innings while making the chase appear comfortable despite the challenging conditions.
Boucher also highlighted the influence of Akeal Hosein, whose disciplined spell played a major role in restricting Delhi Capitals. He explained that the spinner consistently attacked the right areas and extracted significant turn from the surface, particularly during the first innings.
The former wicketkeeper-batter added that Delhi Capitals struggled to read the pitch conditions and failed to adapt effectively, especially during the Powerplay. He credited the Chennai Super Kings captain for introducing Hosein at the right stage of the innings, calling it a decisive tactical move that shifted momentum early in the contest.
With experienced performers stepping up alongside emerging talent, Chennai Super Kings appear to be building strong momentum as the IPL 2026 season progresses.
