IPL auction race heats up

Jeddah: The mega auction of India Premier League (IPL 2025) will be held on 24 and 25 November this time in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Last year a mini auction was held in Dubai. 1574 players have registered for the auction. Last year’s champion Kolkata Knight Riders captain Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant released from Delhi Capitals and former Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul are expected to get big bids. Shreyas last participated in the auction before 2022, Pant 2016 and KL Rahul 2018 IPL.

IPL 2025 Mega Auction: 204 players’ place vacant in 10 teams

10 teams of IPL retained 46 players. After which the place of 204 players became vacant. More than 1000 players will enter the auction for these places. The IPL committee had fixed the date of retaining the players before the mega auction as 31 October 2024. After which the list of released players was handed over to the BCCI.

IPL 2025: So far 1574 players have registered

BCCI said, 1574 players have registered for the auction. Of these, 1165 are Indians and 409 are foreigners. These also include 30 players from associate countries. Among the foreign teams, the highest number of players are from South Africa and 76 from Australia. England’s fast bowlers James Anderson, Jofra Archer, Mitchell Starc are to participate in the auction. While Ben Stokes’ name is not included in this list.

Mega auction happens once in 4 years

It is worth noting that the mega auction of IPL (IPL 2025) happens once in 4 years. At the same time, there is a mini auction every year. Last year, a mini auction was held in Dubai, in which Australia’s Mitchell Starc was bought for Rs 24.75 crore and Pat Cummins for Rs 20.50 crore. The last mega auction took place before the 2022 IPL, when Lucknow and Gujarat teams were added to the league.

Klaasen is the most expensive player to be retained

Sunrisers Hyderabad retained wicketkeeper-batsman Heinrich Klaasen for Rs 23 crore before the retention deadline. He is the most expensive player in terms of retention. After him, LSG retained Nicholas Pooran and RCB retained Virat Kohli for Rs 21-21 crore.
