Lucknow: Lucknow University Moot Court Association is organising the Inter-Collegiate Moot Court Competition, from 12th April to 14th April. 32 Teams from Faculty of Law as well as affiliated law Colleges of Lucknow University are participating in it.
The inaugural Ceremony was held today, in which Advocate Shailendra Singh Rajawat was the Chief Guest and Advocate Shailendra Kumar Singh was the Guest of Honour. Prof. Banshi Dhar Singh, Head and Dean, Faculty of Law, Prof. Rakesh Kumar Singh, Director, New Campus, Dr. Radheshyam Prasad, Faculty Coordinator, Lucknow University Moot Court Association, and other Law Faculty members were present. This event is being organised by the Student Convener Mr. Hemant Pandey, Aditya Gautam, Srijan Pandey, Simar Preet Kaur, Siddhant Raj, Aakash Bajpai, Varsha Singh, and other student Members of Lucknow University Moot Court Association.
Dr. Radheshyam Prasad welcomed and felicitated the dignitaries and participants. In his speech, he talked about the importance of mooting and this competition. Prof. (Dr.) Banshi Dhar Singh said, the purpose of Moot Courts is to sharpen the legal acumen of the budding lawyers and expose them to the practical aspects of the profession. Prof. (Dr.) Rakesh Kumar Singh motivated the participants and elaborated the importance of mooting by reciting the poetry of Javed Akhtar, “… Kuch na hoga to Tajurba hoga.” Thereafter, the Guest of Honour Shailendra Kumar Singh spoke that law is one of the finest profession and one should be practicing it for the purpose of serving the society and not merely for money. At the end, the Chief Guest Advocate Shailendra Singh Rajawat highlighted the history of Moot Courts since its beginning from Harvard University in 1870. Moot Courts were started in India by Bar Council of India in 1981. He also gave tips on how to draft Memorial and plead cases in Courts.
Today, after Inaugural Ceremony, Research Test, and exchange of Memorial were held. Tomorrow 2 Preliminary Rounds along will Quarter Finals will be conducted. On 14th April, 2024, Semi Final Rounds, Final Round, and the Valedictory Ceremony will be held.
Several Awards will be conferred to the well performing individuals and teams. The Winning Team, Runner-up Team, will be felicitated with trophies and certificates. Award for the Best Memorial, Best Speaker, and Best Researcher will also be provided to the respective team and individuals.
