Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has warned police officers in underperforming districts of Uttar Pradesh to either improve their performances in disposal of crimes, or face action. He specifically reprimanded several officers for their negligence in resolving cases involving crimes against women and girls, emphasizing the need to prioritize these matters and act with urgency.

Although Uttar Pradesh leads the country in resolving crimes related to women and girls, the performance in some districts still needs to catch up to meet the Chief Minister’s expectations. CM Yogi aims for a 100% resolution rate, but the rate currently hovers between 80% and 90% in certain districts.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recently chaired a high-level review meeting on law and order, where officials presented a report based on data from the ITSSO portal covering April 1, 2023, to April 30, 2024.

The report revealed that Uttar Pradesh ranks first among states in resolving crimes against women and girls, with a disposal rate of 98.70 percent. Among Union Territories, Ladakh ranks first, followed by Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.

Pleased with the state’s performance, CM Yogi commended the Home Department. However, the report also highlighted that some district officers are not taking crime resolution seriously, with negligence apparent in certain areas.

In response, CM Yogi expressed his dissatisfaction and issued a one-month ultimatum to these officers, including SPs, SSPs, and Police Commissioners, to improve their performance. He also instructed officials to submit a report on these negligent officers after one month.

If their work does not improve, disciplinary action may be taken. The current disposal rates in these districts range between 80 and 90 percent. In comparison, CM Yogi insists on a 100 percent resolution rate for crimes against women and girls, emphasizing that any negligence in these matters is unacceptable.

According to the Home Department’s Investigation Tracking System for Sexual Offenses (ITSSO) portal, the compliance rates in several districts are notably low. Prayagraj Commissionerate has a compliance rate of 80.48 percent, Pratapgarh at 84.31 percent, Kanpur Dehat at 85.37 percent, and Chitrakoot at 86.27 percent.

CM Yogi Adityanath has expressed severe displeasure over these figures, instructing district officials to strictly enforce the zero-tolerance policy on crime and ensure swift punishment for offenders.

In Bareilly, 2,997 FIRs related to crimes against women were registered, with final reports pending in eight cases, a ratio of 0.27 percent. In Aligarh, 1,910 FIRs were registered, with six pending cases, a ratio of 0.31 percent. Sultanpur registered 952 FIRs, with three cases pending, a ratio of 0.32 percent, and Fatehgarh registered 767 FIRs, with two cases pending, a ratio of 0.26 percent.

CM Yogi has directed officials to prioritize resolving these pending cases and warned that he will conduct a review after one month.

If the situation remains unsatisfactory, strict action will be taken against negligent officials, underlining the serious consequences of inaction.

During the meeting, officials reported that 1,142 FIRs related to crimes against women were registered in Amroha, with final reports submitted in 1,117 cases, resulting in a disposal rate of 97.81 percent. In Barabanki, 1,580 FIRs were registered, with final reports submitted in 1,549 cases, achieving a disposal rate of 98.04 percent.

The Lucknow Commissionerate recorded 2,686 FIRs, with final reports filed in 2,636 cases, reflecting a disposal rate of 98.13 percent. Similarly, Pratapgarh registered 1,246 FIRs, with final reports submitted in 1,223 cases, resulting in a disposal rate of 98.15 percent. Bareilly registered 2,997 FIRs, with final reports submitted in 2,942 cases, achieving a disposal rate of 98.16 percent.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s response to the investigation process was clear and direct. He directed Home Department officials to expedite the investigation process and promptly complete any pending investigations.

He emphasized the need for improvement before the next review meeting and instructed the officials to focus on districts with subpar performance. The CM’s warning was stern: if there is no improvement, strict action will be taken against those responsible.
