IIT Kanpur Hosts 3rd Edition of Institute Research Symposium

Kanpur: The Academics and Career Council (AnC) of the Students Gymkhana at IIT Kanpur successfully organized the 3rd edition of the Institute Research Symposium (IRS’24). This highly anticipated event united the diverse scientific community of IIT Kanpur, including students, researchers, and faculty members, to showcase and celebrate cutting-edge research and innovation.

IRS ’24 served as a testament to the depth and diversity of research conducted at IIT Kanpur, offering an extensive platform for students to engage in oral talks, poster presentations, and networking sessions with peers and faculty members. Over the two-day event, approximately 500 participants attended, reflecting the institute’s commitment to academic excellence and knowledge sharing.

Key highlights of IRS’24 included compelling sessions from distinguished keynote speakers. Dr. Yogeshwar Nath Mishra, a scientist at NASA-Caltech and KAUST, delivered an engaging talk titled “Building the World’s Fastest Cameras and Avoiding Failures in Research,” offering valuable insights into advancing research resilience and technical innovation. Prof. Ashutosh Sharma, Institute Chair Professor, Former DST Secretary and President of the Indian National Science Academy, presented a talk on “Sustainability of Knowledge: Education, Research, and Innovation in a Brave New World,” emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary research and sustainable innovation in academic pursuits.

The valedictory ceremony was honored by the presence of esteemed guests, including Prof. Manindra Agrawal, Director of IIT Kanpur, Prof. Shalabh, Dean of Academic Affairs, along with keynote speakers, organizers, and student participants. The ceremony recognized students’ outstanding achievements in various categories of oral and poster presentations. Awards for oral presentations were based on criteria including clarity and significance, content and quality, communication delivery, and Q&A handling. Poster awards highlighted excellence in layout and design, clarity, significance, content, and engagement with peers and visitors.

Prof. Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi, the Organizing Chair of IRS’24, and Prof. Ark Verma, Faculty Advisor of the AnC, provided visionary guidance throughout the planning and execution of the symposium.
IRS’24 exemplified the commitment of the Academics and Career Council to fostering a vibrant academic and research environment, motivating students to pursue innovative ideas, and making impactful contributions to the scientific community.
