Historic Aminabad Inter College Opens Doors to Girls for the First Time in 139 Years

Lucknow: A new chapter in educational inclusion has begun at the historic Aminabad Inter College, as the 139-year-old institution has started admitting girl students for the first time since its establishment in 1887.

Following approval from the Lucknow Municipal Corporation’s Executive Committee earlier this week, the admission process for girls from Classes 6 to 12 commenced on Wednesday. On the very first day, seven students enrolled, including four girls in Class 6 and three in Class 11.

The municipal corporation-run institution, known for its long-standing contribution to education in the city, has traditionally catered to boys. The decision to open admissions for girls is being viewed as a landmark step toward expanding educational opportunities and promoting gender inclusivity.

Affordable Education for More Families

Aminabad Inter College offers education at minimal fees, making it an attractive option for students from economically weaker and middle-income families. With admissions now open to girls, daughters from Aminabad and surrounding localities will have access to quality education at an affordable cost.

Officials said the move is expected to benefit families seeking good educational opportunities without the financial burden often associated with private institutions.

Mayor Interacts with Newly Admitted Students

During a special event at the school, Lucknow Mayor Sushma Kharkwal met the newly admitted students and encouraged them to pursue their studies with dedication and confidence.

Addressing the students, the Mayor emphasized the importance of providing girls with equal access to quality education and opportunities for personal growth. She described the admission of girls to the historic institution as a significant milestone and reaffirmed the municipal corporation’s commitment to improving educational infrastructure and facilities in its schools.

A Landmark Change in a Historic Institution

Established in 1887, Aminabad Inter College has been a prominent educational institution in Lucknow for more than a century. The introduction of co-education marks one of the most significant developments in its history and is expected to create new opportunities for young girls seeking affordable education.

Officials and Educators Attend Event

The event was attended by Gaurav Kumar, local councillor Mukesh Singh Monty, Additional Municipal Commissioner Arun Kumar Gupta, Deputy Municipal Commissioner Rashmi Bharti, Chief Finance and Accounts Officer Mahamilind Lal, and Principal Sahab Lal Mishra, along with teachers and a large number of students.

The development is being seen as a progressive step toward ensuring greater access to education for girls while preserving the legacy of one of Lucknow’s oldest educational institutions.
