Gonda: Gonda District Magistrate Priyanka Niranjan marked the 80th Independence Day through a series of programmes conveying messages of patriotism, environmental conservation and social awareness.
The District Magistrate began the celebrations by hoisting the national flag at her camp office and the Collectorate premises, followed by the National Anthem. She paid tribute to the brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country’s freedom.
After the flag-hoisting ceremony, Niranjan planted saplings on the Collectorate campus to promote environmental conservation. She urged officers and employees to plant more trees and ensure their proper care to help create a clean, green and beautiful Gonda.
The District Magistrate later visited Ambedkar Chauraha in the city and paid floral tribute to Bharat Ratna Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar at his statue. She recalled his contribution to social harmony and constitutional values and urged people to follow his ideals while contributing to public service.
A special cultural and patriotic programme was organised at the Collectorate auditorium as part of the Independence Day celebrations. Students and teachers of Government Girls Inter College presented patriotic songs, which received an enthusiastic response from the audience.

Niranjan appreciated the students for their performances, presented them with gifts and wished them a bright future.
Officials, employees, advocates, prominent citizens, representatives of social organisations and school students attended the programme. At its conclusion, the District Magistrate paid tribute to the freedom fighters and appealed to everyone to make an active contribution towards nation-building.
Chief Revenue Officer Rinki Jaiswal, City Magistrate Pankaj Verma, Additional Sub-Divisional Magistrates Ashok Kumar Gupta, Vineet Kumar and Brijesh Kumar, along with other officials and representatives, were present.
