Gonda: Gonda District Magistrate Priyanka Niranjan marked the 80th Independence Day through a series of programmes highlighting patriotism, environmental conservation and social awareness.
The District Magistrate first hoisted the national flag at her camp office and at the Collectorate premises, followed by the National Anthem and a tribute to the brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country’s freedom. After the flag-hoisting ceremony, she planted saplings on the Collectorate campus and urged officers and employees to contribute to environmental protection by planting more trees and ensuring their proper care.
Niranjan subsequently visited Ambedkar Chauraha in the city and paid floral tribute to Bharat Ratna Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar at his statue. She recalled his contribution to social harmony and the constitutional values of equality and justice and urged citizens to imbibe his ideals and contribute to public service.
A special cultural and patriotic programme was also organised at the Collectorate auditorium to mark Independence Day. Students and teachers of Government Girls Inter College presented patriotic songs, which received an enthusiastic response from those present.

The District Magistrate appreciated the students for their performances, presented them with gifts and wished them success and a bright future.
Officials, employees, advocates, prominent citizens, representatives of social organisations and school students attended the celebrations. At the conclusion, Niranjan paid tribute to the freedom fighters and appealed to everyone to make an active contribution towards nation-building.
Chief Revenue Officer Rinki Jaiswal, City Magistrate Pankaj Verma, Additional Sub-Divisional Magistrates Ashok Kumar Gupta, Vineet Kumar and Brijesh Kumar, along with other senior officials and representatives, were present during the programmes.
