Gonda: Divisional Commissioner of Devipatan Division Durga Shakti Nagpal hoisted the national flag and saluted the Tricolour on the occasion of the 80th Independence Day on Friday. Following the National Anthem, she extended Independence Day greetings to officers and employees and administered a pledge to uphold the unity, integrity and sovereignty of the country.
Addressing those present, Nagpal said the people of India had the privilege of living in a free nation because of the sacrifice, perseverance and supreme courage of freedom fighters and martyrs. She said the best tribute to the nation’s freedom fighters was to discharge one’s responsibilities with sincerity, honesty and dedication.
The Divisional Commissioner said every citizen had an important role to play in taking the country and the state towards new heights of development. She urged officers and employees to give the highest priority to public service and perform their duties with transparency, sensitivity and accountability.
Students of Government Girls Inter College presented patriotic songs during the programme. Their performances were appreciated by the dignitaries and other guests and added to the patriotic spirit of the celebrations.

During the programme, prominent guests and officials shared their views on the significance of Independence Day and the responsibilities of citizens in nation-building.
Nagpal also distributed foldable study tables to participating students of Government Girls Inter College and encouraged them to study diligently and work towards achieving their goals.
Additional Commissioner (Administration) Meenu Rana, Joint Development Commissioner Rakesh Pandey, senior officials, employees, advocates and other dignitaries were present at the programme.
