External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar Attends Donald Trump’s Inauguration Festivities

Washington: On Monday night, local time, External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr. S. Jaishankar was present at the Capitol in Washington, DC, for the inaugural celebrations of Donald Trump, who was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States. The event marked the first festivities of Trump’s second term in office, and Jaishankar was seen engaging with several important officials of the Trump administration.

On X (formerly Twitter), Jaishankar shared, “I was in Washington this evening for the inaugural celebrations. Meeting with important officials of the Trump administration.”

Key Meetings at the Event

During the inaugural festivities, Jaishankar met with prominent figures from the Trump administration, including Senate Majority Leader John Thune and the newly appointed Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mike Johnson. He also engaged with Kash Patel, the Trump Administration’s nominee for Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Jaishankar tweeted, “Delighted to meet Speaker Mike Johnson and Majority Leader John Thune at the evening function.”

The EAM also conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s congratulations and exchanged pleasantries with Argentina’s President, Javier Milei. He noted, “Happy to see Argentina’s President Javier Milei. PM Narendra Modi’s greetings were conveyed.”

A Great Honor for India

Earlier in the day, Jaishankar expressed his pride in representing India at the inauguration, calling it a “great honor.” He shared images of the ceremony on X, stating, “A great honor to represent India at the inauguration ceremony of @POTUS President Donald J Trump and @VP Vice President JD Vance in Washington DC today.”

As Trump took the oath of office, marking the beginning of his second term, Jaishankar’s presence underscored the importance of India-US relations, reflecting the deepening diplomatic ties between the two nations.

Donald Trump was sworn in by US Chief Justice John Roberts, and JD Vance was inaugurated as the 50th Vice President of the United States. Following the oath-taking, President Trump declared, “The ‘golden age’ of America has started,” emphasizing that “today marks the Liberation Day for the country.”
