Lucknow: Max Super Speciality Hospital is swiftly becoming a trusted healthcare institution in Lucknow, renowned for its advanced facilities, skilled medical professionals, and a patient-centered approach. With experienced doctors at the helm of specialized departments, the hospital is not only providing top-tier treatment but also setting new benchmarks in emergency and critical care. In an exclusive conversation with The Lucknow Tribune, Dr. Saurabh Kumar Singh, Consultant In-charge of Emergency Medicine at Max Super Speciality Hospital, highlighted the unique philosophy driving the facility’s growth and its commitment to becoming a transformative force in the city’s healthcare landscape.
A Unique Approach to Emergency Care
Dr. Saurabh Kumar Singh brings a wealth of experience to Max, having worked in renowned institutions like Apollo Hospital and Jolly Grant Hospital. Joining Max Super Speciality in May 2024, he is focused on building a state-of-the-art emergency care unit that not only saves lives but also instills a sense of security among patients and their families. According to Dr. Singh, the emergency care at Max is not limited to routine treatment. Instead, it encompasses specialized and swift interventions that can make a significant difference, especially when administered within the “golden hour” — the critical period immediately after a traumatic injury, during which prompt medical treatment is most likely to prevent death.
Dr. Singh underscores that emergency care requires a more extensive skill set than general practice. For example, he mentions that handling trauma, cardiac events, and complex airway management are specialized skills that demand both training and experience. Therefore, Max Super Speciality Hospital has recruited skilled professionals who bring expertise in these areas, ensuring that patients receive the best possible care when every second counts.
Expanding Emergency Facilities for Comprehensive Care
Max Super Speciality Hospital’s emergency department initially opened with 16 beds and a team of 10 doctors. However, Dr. Singh’s goal is to expand this capacity to 50 beds to accommodate the growing needs of Lucknow’s population. The department is equipped with advanced infrastructure, including an operation theater, procedure room, resuscitation unit, and a disaster management cell, ready to handle mass casualty situations.
Promoting Public Awareness and Health Education
Max’s emergency team frequently addresses misinformed concerns, providing accurate information to patients and their families. This commitment to public health education is central to Max’s approach, and the hospital is actively engaging with local schools, workplaces, and community centers to spread awareness about emergency healthcare and preventive measures.
Specialized Training and Career Development
Understanding the need for skilled professionals in emergency medicine, Dr. Singh has initiated a specialized certificate course in collaboration with George Washington University. Although not yet recognized by the Medical Council of India, this program provides practical training and prepares young professionals for real-world emergency scenarios.
Technology-Driven Healthcare
Max Super Speciality Hospital is also leveraging modern technology to enhance patient care. Dr. Singh notes that real-time video conferencing allows doctors to monitor patients’ conditions during ambulance transfers, facilitating immediate medical response and enabling remote experts to provide guidance when necessary. Advanced systems like these allow seamless coordination among emergency teams, reducing treatment delays and improving outcomes.
Another innovative measure Dr. Singh is championing is the establishment of “green corridors” for organ transplants. By creating a designated, unimpeded route for organ transportation, Max aims to support safe and efficient transplant procedures. This initiative aligns with the hospital’s broader goal of adopting global best practices in critical care.
Preparing for the Future
Looking ahead, Max Super Speciality Hospital has ambitious plans to expand its presence. Max will soon start it’s out reach program for Emergency Medicine dept to various locations in Lucknow and in among various communities of city.
Raising Standards in Emergency Medicine
As Dr. Singh describes, emergency medicine is still a relatively young field in India, yet it holds immense career potential for dedicated professionals. Cities like Delhi and Gurugram have already developed sophisticated emergency care infrastructures, and Dr. Singh believes that Uttar Pradesh, especially Lucknow, is on track to become a significant player in this sector.
