Crackdown on illicit liquor vendors continues in U.P.

Lucknow: The enforcement action taken by the Excise Department in Uttar Pradesh and the special enforcement campaign being run to catch illegal liquor have increased the excise revenue. In the month of July, 2024, revenue of Rs 3952.53 crore has been received, which is 115 percent more than the revenue received in the same month last year.

While giving this information, Minister of State for Excise (Independent Charge)  Nitin Agarwal said that a target of earning revenue of Rs 4700 crore was set in the month of July, against which revenue of Rs 3952.53 crore has been earned, which is 84.1 percent of the target. He informed that in the current financial year, the target is to earn excise revenue of Rs 58310 crore, against which revenue of Rs 15736.29 crore has been received till the month of July. In the coming period, he has instructed the officers to achieve 100 percent target.

Giving information about the cases caught till July in the current financial year 2024-25, the Excise Minister said that 78640 raids were conducted by the enforcement team in the state and 2292 cases of illegal liquor extraction were registered.

Action was taken against 6593 people smuggling illegal liquor within the state border and 22 people found involved in interstate illegal liquor smuggling. The Excise Minister said that under the enforcement action in the state, 192448 liters of raw liquor was caught, 20699 liters of illegal country liquor and 9875 liters of illegal foreign liquor were seized. While arresting 1921 accused involved in this, 376 people were sent to jail and 15 vehicles were seized.
