Construction of Subway Begins at Agra College Metro Station Using Box Pushing Technique

Agra: The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has commenced the construction of a subway at Agra College Metro Station using the box pushing technique. In this process, pre-cast boxes of specified dimensions are pushed across the road using jacks to construct the subway. The construction formally began on Wednesday with a ceremonial puja. This technique ensures that traffic on MG Road remains unaffected.

To implement the box pushing technique for the subway, UPMRC first cast a box measuring approximately 8 meters in width and 5 meters in height at Agra College Metro Station. These boxes are now being pushed inward using jacks, while soil is continuously excavated. The entire subway will be about 31 meters long upon completion.

Agra is developing a 29.4 km-long metro network with two corridors and 27 stations. Agra College Metro Station is being established as a junction, connecting the underground station of the first corridor with the elevated station of the second corridor. This subway will facilitate seamless passenger movement between both sides of the road and allow easy transfer between corridors.

Notably, metro operations are successfully running on the priority corridor between Taj East Gate and Manakameshwar Metro Station. Additionally, construction is ongoing for the remaining section of the first corridor and the second corridor from Agra Cantt to Kalindi Vihar.
