Lucknow: The Union Budget 2025-26 introduced several initiatives aimed at strengthening India’s manufacturing sector, with a special focus on labor-intensive industries, as part of the “Make in India” mission. Key announcements include:
- National Manufacturing Mission: This mission will cover small, medium, and large industries, providing policy support, governance frameworks, and execution roadmaps to enhance India’s manufacturing capabilities. The mission focuses on five areas:
- Ease and cost of doing business
- Building a future-ready workforce
- Promoting a dynamic MSME sector
- Ensuring technology availability
- Improving product quality
It will also support Clean Tech manufacturing, with a focus on key sectors like solar PV cells, EV batteries, motors, wind turbines, and grid-scale batteries.
- Focus Product Scheme for Footwear & Leather Sectors: This new scheme aims to enhance the productivity, quality, and competitiveness of India’s footwear and leather sector. The scheme will promote design capacity, machinery for production, and support both leather and non-leather footwear production. The initiative is expected to generate employment for 22 lakh people, achieve a turnover of ₹4 lakh crore, and increase exports by over ₹1.1 lakh crore.
- National Action Plan for Toys: The Government will focus on developing clusters, skills, and a robust manufacturing ecosystem to make India a global hub for toy production. This will support the creation of high-quality, sustainable toys under the “Made in India” brand.
- Support for Food Processing: As part of the “Purvodaya” initiative, the government is committed to boosting the food processing industry. A new National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship, and Management will be established in Bihar to enhance food processing activities in the Eastern region. This will create more income for farmers and provide opportunities for youth in skilling, entrepreneurship, and employment.
These initiatives aim to improve India’s manufacturing landscape, generate jobs, and increase the country’s competitiveness in global markets.
