BBD University’s School of Education Hosts Enlightening Guest Lecture on “शिक्षा, समकालीन इतिहास और साहित्य: एक पुनर्विचार”

Lucknow– The School of Education at BBD University organized a thought-provoking guest lecture on “शिक्षा, समकालीन इतिहास और साहित्य: एक पुनर्विचार” on January 30, 2025. The event was aimed at offering a fresh perspective on education, contemporary history, and literature, and was attended by students, faculty members, and scholars eager to engage in an academic discourse.

The lecture was delivered by the distinguished Prof. Devendra Choubey from the Centre for Indian Languages, School of Language, Literature & Culture Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). Prof. Choubey, known for his extensive research in the fields of education, history, and literature, shared valuable insights into the intersection of these disciplines. His research delved into how education serves as a powerful tool in shaping historical narratives and literary traditions, while also influencing societal structures.

Prof. Choubey emphasized the importance of rethinking conventional historical interpretations and literature, urging students to approach these fields with a critical mindset. “Education is not just about acquiring knowledge; it is about how we perceive and interpret history and culture. It shapes our understanding of the world, and through literature, we reflect the complexities of society,” Prof. Choubey remarked.

The session was further enriched by the insightful contribution of Prof. Urmila Sharma, a noted academician from the Women’s Study Centre at SGT University. Prof. Sharma’s discourse focused on the transformative role of education in women’s empowerment. She explored how gender dynamics have evolved over time and discussed the significant role education plays in dismantling societal barriers for women. Drawing upon historical and contemporary examples, Prof. Sharma analyzed the growing presence of women in academia, politics, and other key sectors, stressing that education is central to the empowerment of women in India.

Adding another layer of intellectual depth, renowned historian Dr. Rashmi Chaube, who attended the lecture as the Guest of Honour, provided thought-provoking perspectives on Indian history. Dr. Chaube challenged conventional historical narratives, urging attendees to view history not as a set of fixed events but as a dynamic and evolving field that must be continually questioned and reinterpreted. Her comments on how historical events have been shaped by various cultural, social, and political influences provided fresh insights, encouraging participants to approach history with an open mind and a critical eye.

The lecture, followed by an interactive Q&A session, was a resounding success, leaving participants with a deeper understanding of the intricate connections between education, history, and literature. The academic exchange fostered a stimulating environment for intellectual growth and critical thinking.

Dr. Surajit Kumar, Dean of the School of Education at BBD University, expressed his appreciation for the speakers’ contributions. He noted that such discussions are essential in broadening the perspectives of students and faculty alike, enabling them to reflect on the evolving role of education in shaping society.
