Bareilly: The Department of Law at Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University successfully conducted the PhD viva presentation of research scholar Amit Kumar Singh on Monday.
The viva presentation was held in the presence of external examiner Mohammad Ashraf from the Department of Law at Aligarh Muslim University. The programme was also attended by research supervisor O P Rai, who guided the research work.
Other dignitaries present during the programme included Amit Singh, V K Gupta, Arun Prakash Singh and Sanjay Yadav from the Department of Law at Bareilly College. The guests were welcomed with shawls and saplings as a mark of respect.
During the presentation, Amit Kumar Singh presented his research thesis titled “Role of Police in Criminal Justice System in India: Problems and Challenges.”
The research focused on police reforms and highlighted several challenges within India’s criminal justice system. The scholar proposed multiple recommendations aimed at improving policing and strengthening the justice delivery mechanism. Key suggestions included specialised cybercrime training for police personnel, strengthening forensic policing systems and promoting community policing as an essential pillar of a democratic society.
The research also recommended revising the Police Act of 1861 and increasing the use of modern technology in criminal investigations to improve efficiency and transparency in policing.
The research work was completed under the supervision of O P Rai.
Faculty members present on the occasion included Shahnaz Akhtar, Laxmi Devi, Naeemuddin, Preksha Singh, Nidhi Shankar, Priyadarshini, Ravikar Yadav and Sachin Rastogi.
Research scholars including Shailendra Singh, LLM students and staff members of the Law Department, including Gulab Singh, Ram Vachan and Mohit, were also present during the programme.
