Assam Rifles Seizes Heroin Worth ₹76.40 Lakh, Areca Nuts Valued at ₹70.55 Lakh in Mizoram

Aizawl: The Assam Rifles, in separate joint operations with the Excise and Narcotics Department and Customs Preventive Force, seized heroin and a large consignment of areca nuts in Mizoram’s Champhai area, officials said.

In an operation conducted in Khawzawl district, Assam Rifles personnel, along with the Excise and Narcotics Department, Champhai, searched a suspected individual and recovered 382.03 grams of Heroin No. 4. The seized narcotic substance has an estimated value of ₹76.40 lakh.

The individual along with the seized contraband was subsequently handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department, Champhai, for further investigation.

In a separate operation at Ruantlang in Champhai district, Assam Rifles troops, working with the Customs Preventive Force, Champhai, conducted a targeted search and recovered 80 bags containing areca nuts.

The consignment weighed approximately 6,400 kg and was estimated to be worth ₹70.55 lakh. The seized areca nuts were handed over to the Customs Preventive Force, Champhai, for further investigation and necessary legal action.

The operations are part of ongoing efforts by security and enforcement agencies to curb the movement of narcotics and other illicit consignments in Mizoram’s border areas.
