Agra witnesses most torrential rain second time after 85 years

Agra: Most people have seen rain in Agra for the first time since 48 hours. This is the second time after 85 years that Agra has witnessed such torrential rain in a single day that 151 mm of rain was recorded in just 24 hours. Earlier, on 16 September 1939, Agra had a record of 286 mm of rain which has not been broken till now. In just one day, so much rain has fallen in the city that the average rainfall of September is much less than this.

The Meteorological Department had issued a red alert for three days in Agra city. The rain that started  continued. This is the second time in 85 years that the people of Agra have witnessed so much rain in September. In the last 24 hours, 151 mm of rain has been recorded in the district. A day before this, 54 mm of rain had fallen. The average rainfall in September is 111.1 mm.

For two years, the rainfall in September was less than the average, but this time the rainfall on Thursday itself crossed the average of the entire month. The weather department has issued an orange alert on Friday. There are chances of rain during the day. Rainfall will decrease from Saturday.

Feeling like pink winter

The monsoon departs in the last days of September, but for the past several years, the weather has been warm due to less rainfall in September. This time, continuous rain made people feel the pink winter in two days. On Thursday, the maximum temperature was 27.6 degrees, which is 5.5 degrees less than normal, while the minimum temperature was 24.4 degrees, which is 3.7 degrees less than normal. There was a difference of only 3.2 degrees between day and night temperatures.

Heavy rain stopped the wheels of vehicles on the highway. Heavy rain filled the highway with water. There was a pond like situation from the road to the village. People’s houses were also filled with water. In village Lohkarera, the roads have been submerged from all sides. Waterlogging on the Sikandra highway caused a jam from 4 am in the morning. Vehicles stopped at many places due to water filling in the engine. People had to pull the vehicles. Vehicles were stuck in the waterlogging on the highway from Artoni to Hiralal’s Pyaau. At around 10 am, the highway administration installed a pump in a tractor but it broke down in a short while. There was a long queue of vehicles for several kilometers. Many crane operators were also busy collecting money.

Drain made with two crores got choked in two days of rain

The company collecting toll on the Agra-Hathras highway constructed drains with Rs 2 crore 41 lakh to prevent waterlogging in Ramnagar. The drains got choked in just two days of rain. Waterlogging occurred on the highway. Water filled the nearby shops and houses. The villagers also protested against the Vrajbhoomi Construction Company for leaving the drain incomplete.
