Lucknow: The 34th edition of the five-day Ramlila began on Friday at Sector A, Sitapur Road Yojana, with the enactment of the birth of Lord Ram and other significant episodes from the Ramayana.
The programme was inaugurated by local MLA Dr Neeraj Bora, who performed the aarti of Lord Ganesha. The ceremony was followed by a group dance by young girls to a Ganesh Vandana, captivating the audience.

On the opening day, artists presented the birth of Lord Ram, the killing of Tadaka, the Dhanush Yagya and the dialogue between Parashuram and Lakshman.

The performance depicting Lord Ram’s birth narrated how King Dasharath, on the advice of Sage Vashishtha, performed the Kameshti Yagna with his three queens—Kaushalya, Sumitra and Kaikeyi—to seek a successor. Pleased with the ritual, Agni Dev appeared and gave the king a vessel of sacred offering, which Dasharath distributed among his queens. In due course, four sons—Ram, Bharat, Lakshman and Shatrughna—were born.
Councillor Man Singh Yadav, Ramlila Committee president Suresh Kumar Tiwari, general secretary Jitendra Mishra, joint secretary Shanti Swaroop Shukla and director Umashankar Rathore were among those present, along with a large number of spectators.
