Jaishankar Meets UAE Foreign Minister to Strengthen Strategic Partnership

Abu Dhabi: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi to discuss bilateral cooperation and key regional and global developments.

The meeting took place during Jaishankar’s official visit to the United Arab Emirates, as both countries seek to deepen their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership amid shifting geopolitical dynamics. UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation Reem Al Hashimy welcomed the Indian minister upon his arrival.

In a post on X, Jaishankar described his meeting with Al Nahyan as warm and productive, noting that the two sides exchanged views on bilateral and international issues.

The ministers also participated in the Middle East session of the Raisina Dialogue, titled The World Ahead: Power, Purpose & Possibility. He also pointed to smaller groups of countries working together on specific issues as a potential way to advance international cooperation.

The visit comes amid continuing tensions in parts of the Middle East, underscoring the importance of diplomatic engagement and regional stability. India and the UAE share extensive ties in trade, investment, energy and people-to-people exchanges.

The discussions also follow a maritime incident involving the crude oil tanker MT Gem No. 2 off Ras Al Khaimah. The Indian Consulate in Dubai reported that all 22 Indian crew members had been rescued and were safe, while coordinating assistance with UAE authorities.

Separately, Jaishankar met Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili during the Raisina Dialogue engagements. Their discussions covered opportunities to expand cooperation in trade, tourism, education, connectivity and cultural exchanges.

The diplomatic engagements reflect India’s continued efforts to strengthen bilateral partnerships and maintain dialogue on regional and international challenges.
