2,378 Women in Green Sarees Set Record Celebrating Sawan Traditions in Lucknow

Lucknow: The vibrant greenery and festive spirit of Sawan turned into a record-setting celebration at the Atal Bihari Hall of K.D. Singh Babu Stadium, where 2,378 women dressed in green sarees and traditional adornments came together to dance to Sawan and traditional swing songs.

The event, organised under the banner of ‘Ghar-Ghar Hariyali’, was presented as an effort to celebrate the cultural traditions associated with the monsoon month of Sawan while promoting the message of greenery and environmental awareness.

International Book of Records representative Preeti Singh announced the record and presented a certificate to Puneeta Bhatnagar, president of the organising body, Shiv Shilp Gram.

The programme opened with a Ganesh Vandana by Ratan Sisters Isha and Misha Ratan. Popular folk singer Reena Tandon and her accompanying performers then presented a series of traditional songs, including Aao Milkar Diya Jalaye, Pedwa Na Kato, Hare Hare Baag Ma Amwa Ki Daal Jhoola Pada and Khanan Khanan Khanke Kanganwa. The performances had the participants joining in the festive Sawan celebrations.

Lucknow Mayor Sushma Kharwal congratulated the women who participated in the record attempt as well as the people of Lucknow. She described the achievement, rooted in traditional cultural values, as a matter of pride for the city.

Organiser Puneeta Bhatnagar said women from several districts of Uttar Pradesh, as well as Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Uttarakhand, participated in the programme.

Among the guests were Shambhavi Mai of Gurukul Ujjain, Gorakhpur-based singer Urmila and corporator Durgesh Kashyap.

Jyoti Kiran Ratan said certificates would be presented to all the women who participated in the record-setting event.

Charu Bhatnagar, Rupali Bhatnagar, Dipali, Ajit Srivastava, Mahendra and Amrit contributed to the arrangements and successful conduct of the programme.
