Bareilly: Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University (MJPRU), Bareilly, organised a grand Tiranga Yatra on the university campus under the Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan 2026, with Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.P. Singh leading the programme.
Guests were welcomed at the Sports Complex with saplings, following which the Tiranga Yatra began with the release of tricolour balloons, symbolising hopes for the country’s prosperity and progress.
The procession started from the Sports Complex and proceeded to the Swami Vivekananda Prerna Sthal near the university’s Golden Jubilee Gate. A large number of students, teachers, officers and employees participated enthusiastically. Students carried the Tricolour and conveyed messages of patriotism and national unity.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.P. Singh, Bareilly Mayor Dr Umesh Gautam and Bithri Chainpur MLA Dr Raghavendra Sharma were present at the Swami Vivekananda Prerna Sthal. The dignitaries also inaugurated the newly constructed Prof. M.D. Tiwari Marg on the university campus. The road has been named in memory of former Vice-Chancellor Prof. M.D. Tiwari in recognition of his contribution to the university and higher education.
The dignitaries also paid floral tributes to the statue of Swami Vivekananda.
Addressing the students, Prof. K.P. Singh said young people are the greatest strength of any nation and the primary drivers of its development. He said the Tricolour is not merely a national flag but a symbol of India’s unity, integrity, pride and the sacrifices of freedom fighters.
He called upon young people to use the Tiranga Yatra as an opportunity to commit themselves not only to their rights but also to their duties and social responsibilities. He said Swami Vivekananda’s teachings continue to inspire youth to develop confidence, discipline, a spirit of national service and positive thinking.
Prof. Singh said that as India prepares to celebrate its 80th Independence Day, the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign provides an opportunity for citizens, particularly young people, to play a decisive role in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.
Bareilly Mayor Dr Umesh Gautam said the progress of Rohilkhand University was a matter of pride for the city. He said the university has been scaling new heights through its academic, cultural and social welfare initiatives.
He highlighted the significant contribution of Prof. M.D. Tiwari to the establishment and development of the university. The enthusiastic participation of students in the Tiranga Yatra, he said, reflected the younger generation’s understanding of its responsibilities towards the nation.
The Mayor urged students to imbibe the ideals of Swami Vivekananda and make a positive contribution to the development of society and the country.
Bithri Chainpur MLA Dr Raghavendra Sharma said India’s youth are the country’s greatest asset. He noted that young people have played an important role from the freedom movement to the ongoing journey of building a developed India.
He urged students to move beyond the virtual world of mobile phones and come forward with new ideas and innovative thinking. He called upon them to give priority to national interest and help take the country to new heights through education, innovation, discipline and social service.
The programme was conducted by university Cultural Coordinator Dr Jyoti Pandey, who said various activities are being organised continuously across the university campus and affiliated institutions under the Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan 2026. She said the Tiranga Yatra was aimed at creating awareness among students about patriotism, national unity and the values of the freedom movement.
University Registrar Mahendra Kumar Singh, Prof Vinay Rishiwal, Prof A.K. Singh, Prof S.S. Bedi, Dr Jyoti Pandey, Tapan Verma, heads of departments, deans, teachers, officers, employees and a large number of students participated enthusiastically in the programme.
