Lucknow: The Gomti Nagar Extension Police in Lucknow have arrested a wanted accused in connection with a firing incident in which several individuals were allegedly attacked with the intention to kill and a vehicle was damaged.
According to police officials, the case was registered following a complaint filed by Shubham Tripathi, a resident of Khargapur under Gomti Nagar Extension police station limits. In his complaint, Tripathi alleged that the accused opened fire on him and his friends — Amit Singh, Abhishek Mishra, Mihir Singh and Aman Singh — while they were travelling in a Scorpio vehicle. The firing was allegedly carried out with the intent to cause death, and the vehicle was also damaged during the incident.
Acting promptly on the complaint, Gomti Nagar Extension Police registered Case No. 104/2026 under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Rahul Singh and three other accused persons.
During the course of investigation, police identified Neeraj Pandey (36), son of Dayanand Pandey and a resident of Chittupur area in Varanasi, as one of the accused involved in the case. A police team from Gomti Nagar Extension was subsequently dispatched to Varanasi to apprehend him.
With the assistance of Sigra Police Commissionerate and the use of technical intelligence, the police team successfully traced and arrested Neeraj Pandey from his residence in the Pisach Mochan area of Varanasi. He was brought to Lucknow and produced before Gomti Nagar Extension Police Station on June 15, 2026, at around 8:20 a.m.
Police officials stated that after completing the required legal formalities, the accused was being produced before the competent court.
Criminal Background
Police records indicate that Neeraj Pandey has a previous criminal case registered against him. He was earlier named in Case No. 006/2021 under Sections 302 and 201 of the Indian Penal Code at Kotwali Police Station, Varanasi, relating to a murder case.

Police officials said further investigation into the firing incident is underway and efforts are being made to apprehend the remaining accused involved in the case.
