Lucknow Upgrades 14 Urban PHCs into City Polyclinics; Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak Inaugurates Facilities

Lucknow: In a major boost to urban healthcare services, the Uttar Pradesh government has upgraded 14 Urban Primary Health Centres (U-PHCs) in Lucknow into City Polyclinics, bringing specialist medical care closer to residents. The upgraded facilities were inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Brajesh Pathak at the Aurangabad PHC.

The initiative has been launched under the National Health Mission (NHM) with the objective of providing affordable and quality specialist healthcare services to citizens within their local communities.

Specialist Healthcare Services at Doorstep

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Brajesh Pathak said that ensuring access to quality healthcare remains one of the government’s highest priorities. He noted that the City Polyclinic model has been introduced to make specialized medical consultation and treatment available closer to people’s homes.

The upgraded facilities will offer services in several specialties, including gynecology, pediatrics, orthopedics, and other key medical disciplines. Patients requiring expert consultation will no longer have to depend solely on major hospitals for routine specialist care.

Telemedicine and Advanced Diagnostic Facilities

The City Polyclinic scheme has been operational in Lucknow since May under the National Health Mission. Initially, the services are being provided through urban health centres, with plans to extend the model to Community Health Centres (CHCs) in the near future.

The new polyclinics will feature telemedicine services, enabling patients to consult specialists remotely. In addition, the centres will provide 63 types of diagnostic tests and ensure the availability of 195 essential medicines.

To strengthen comprehensive healthcare delivery, the facilities will also be staffed with trained nurses, optometrists, physiotherapists, and integrated counsellors.

The following urban health centres have been upgraded to City Polyclinic status:

  • Barawan Kalan
  • Vrindavan
  • Bharwara
  • Jiamau
  • Pipraghat
  • Jankipuram
  • IIM Area PHC
  • Khargapur
  • Jarhara

  • Chitwapur Urban Family Welfare Centre

Specialist doctors will provide services on-call and through scheduled visits, with remuneration being provided according to designated working days.

Ayushman Cards and Nutrition Kits Distributed

During the event, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak also distributed Ayushman Bharat cards to eligible beneficiaries and handed over nutrition kits to 50 tuberculosis patients as part of the government’s health welfare initiatives.

He also visited awareness and outreach stalls set up under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme, Vector-Borne Disease Control Programme, and National Tobacco Control Programme. The event was attended by local representatives, including MLA O. P. Srivastava.

The launch of the City Polyclinic initiative is expected to significantly strengthen primary and specialist healthcare infrastructure in Lucknow, reducing pressure on tertiary hospitals while improving access to quality medical services for urban residents.
