Lucknow: Students of the M.Sc. Environmental Science programme at Lucknow University celebrated World Environment Day with a series of activities aimed at promoting environmental awareness and sustainability. The event featured a large-scale tree plantation drive, poster exhibition, cleanliness campaign, and discussions on environmental conservation.
The programme was jointly organized by the Department of Botany, Lucknow University, and the Clean and Green Environmental Society (CGES). As part of the celebrations, students actively participated in plantation activities across the Botany Department campus and showcased their ideas and concerns related to environmental protection through creative posters and presentations.
A special lecture was delivered by Prof. Naveen Kumar Arora of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU), who served as the keynote speaker. In his address, Prof. Arora highlighted the urgent need for collective efforts to safeguard the environment and discussed strategies for addressing current and future environmental challenges. He emphasized the importance of sustainable development, biodiversity conservation, and community participation in environmental protection.
The programme was attended by Prof. Gauri Saxena, Head of the Department of Botany; Prof. S.N. Pandey, Coordinator of Environmental Science; Er. Sumer Agrawal, President of the Clean and Green Environmental Society; and former National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI) scientist Dr. S.C. Sharma.

The dignitaries encouraged students and researchers to become ambassadors of environmental awareness and stressed the need for adopting eco-friendly practices in daily life. They also underscored the importance of educating communities about conservation, waste management, and climate action.
Faculty members, postgraduate students, and research scholars participated enthusiastically in the awareness programme and shared their views on environmental issues. Discussions focused on the importance of preserving natural resources, reducing pollution, and promoting sustainable lifestyles to ensure a healthier future for coming generations.
The event concluded with a collective pledge to contribute towards environmental conservation and strengthen efforts to create a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable society.
